The Battle of the Bulge which encompassed the span between 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945 cost the United States over 80,000 casualties, including 19, 246 dead and 23,000 prisoners of war. During the Battle of the Bulge time frame, there were fifteen letters (in our possession) that Kenneth wrote to Elizabeth. The first letter was written from a location in Germany on 17 December and was little more than a note of a few lines. The second letter was written thirteen days later on 30 December from an undisclosed location. The location of Kenneth's unit, 3rd Battalion 67 Armored Regiment is not clear since his battalion was held in Division Reserve. The paucity of letters during the 12-day interval, likely, was directly related to the 2nd Armored's response to the German push into Belgium.
